We thought we would share with you all that our display was named the Camden Council's 2022 BEST LIT HOUSE🎉🎉 This is our second year raising funds for Lifehouse and we will continue to do so as it is VERY close to our hearts 💚 Thank you all for being a part of our journey 💚 Our lights will be on until the 7th of January (off as of the 8th). 💚❤️

About Lights For Lisa

Lisa Meadows (my amazing mother) was a bright, happy, beautiful soul, a mother of two. Lisa was the kind of person that spread happiness to others and that strived to make life as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. Her face, smile, presence could light up a whole entire city! Unfortunately, in 2016 at the age of 52 Lisa lost her battle against cancer. The cancer (that was considered a rarer type of cancer) had originated in her lungs being diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer and ended up spreading throughout her body, being the lungs, spine & brain. Because of her involvement with Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, Lisa was able to increase her quality of life and the time she had here on earth.

Lights for Lisa is all about honouring her memory and spreading awareness for the amazing work that is carried out at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer treatment center in Camperdown NSW. Funds raised go towards research and supporting the amazing life saving work carried out here. Just as Lisa's face, smile, presence could light up a city, we plan on doing that with our Christmas lights to spread awareness, brightness, happiness and beauty to the world.

We want to make life as enjoyable as possible!

Who and what exactly is Chris O’Brien Lifehouse?

Firstly, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is a hospital that is solely dedicated to treating and researching cancer. They treat all types of cancers, specialising in those that are complex and rare. They are dedicated to providing patient-centred, uncompromising and compassionate care.

Their mission is to improve the quality of life for patients and their families, by advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, care, cure and prevention of cancer.

Their concentration of expertise and specialisation in rare and complex cancers ensures we achieve above the New South Wales average survival rate for cancer treatment.

People treated at comprehensive cancer centres such as Lifehouse are more likely to live longer. Data from the Cancer Institute NSW shows that their patients have a greater chance of survival at 90 days than the New South Wales average.

Now, alittle about the amazing man himself Professor Chris O’Brien.

Chris O'Brien was an internationally-renowned head and neck surgeon and director of the Sydney Cancer Centre. He was widely recognised as a compassionate doctor by his patients and the wider Australian public thanks to the reality television program, RPA.

In 2006, Chris was himself diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. He transformed his personal adversity into a national opportunity by using his unique position as both doctor and patient to advocate strongly for a comprehensive cancer centre in NSW, where patients and their carers would no longer have to navigate through all the different elements of dealing with their illness alone.

Four years after his death, his vision was realised with the opening of the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to patients on 19th November 2013.

Lifehouse makes a difference, and we want to help in that journey of making a difference.
