Honour a loved one

A gift in memory of a loved one is a wonderful tribute to their life, and a touching way to help Chris O'Brien Lifehouse transform cancer treatment and care in Australia.

"We wanted to support the doctors who were all so good to Dad. We wanted to make a difference and help the medical team who tried to help our dear father."

Leaving a legacy of research

Neal Wald was diagnosed with an aggressive salivary duct cancer. The husband and father underwent treatment at the RPA, and sadly passed away in June 2010. To honour his memory, and to give back to those that treated Neil, his family decided to leave a legacy in his name. They established the Neal Wald Memorial Research fellowship to support head and neck cancer specialist Professor Jonathan Clark AM in his research into oral cancer.

“Research makes treatments accessible for everyone regardless of wealth or ability to be able to travel to cities for treatment,” said Neal’s son, Hamish.

Currently, the fellowship position is held by bioinformatician Dr Dario Strbenac.

“This research funding is what facilitates improvements in cancer care,” says Professor Clark AM. “Without additional funds, we are powerless to learn more about disease, powerless to improve treatments and powerless to decrease mortality rates. Research funding ultimately helps save lives.”
