In memory of Chelsea Butterfield

By Leanne Shea Langdown

Chelsea was first diagnosed with a very rare form of sarcoma cancer in 2014 at the young age of 25. Unfortunately, this diagnosis came just a year after she brought her beautiful daughter Lola into the world. Instead of being able to celebrate the simple joys of motherhood, Chelsea’s new reality was filled with daily hospital trips and very intrusive surgeries.

After annual recurrences of the cancer, including a Myxoid Liposarcoma metastasis to the spine in September 2017, Chelsea was referred to the incredible team at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse. Dr Vivek Bhadri, Associate Professor Angela Hong and Dr Paul Stalley joined forces to help Chelsea stay with us for an extra 15 months for which we will be forever grateful.

Chelsea's experience with Chris O'Brien Lifehouse brought her hope, renewed fight and a sense of being valued. Their specialised care and personal attention will never be forgotten.

Chelsea grew her wings in the early hours of Wednesday 5 December 2018 at the age of 30. She was lovingly surrounded by her family who will always remember her gorgeous brown eyes and big smile. Thanks to Chris O'Brien she fought hard to the very end. She was so loved and left a big mark on those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Goodbye beautiful girl, we will always love you
