Who/What/When/Where/Why?
Sunday 28th JunFor the last 5 years, each July I have taken on a zero-alcohol month alongside various fitness challenges to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment. I continue to support Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, one of Australia's leading cancer treatment and research institutes, and an organisation so near and dear to my heart.
I say this every year, but the last was by far the most challenging to date – 40 half triathlons over the month, no alcohol, coffee or red meat… fun. And whilst this may be an "individual" challenge, it's only possible with the collective support of you all. Every dollar raised, every run/cycle/swim joined, and all the camaraderie along the way made it happen. Last year we raised over $24,000 for Lifehouse (pushing the tally past $35,000), with more than 40 of you joining me across 66 different legs of the journey. I am truly humbled and speechless.
This year the goal is 50 half triathlons... keep the helmet on and raise the bat over the month of July (5km Run, 20km Cycle, 750m Swim). Alongside this I'll be giving up alcohol and chocolate – two of life's great joys. I can't do this alone, but together, with your support, we can. I'd love to have as many of you as possible joining me for any part of the journey. I'll be personally contributing $10 for every half triathlon completed, and $10 for every individual who joins me across any activity.
For me, this month is dedicated to my late best mate, Fergus McCulla. Fergus embodied what unwavering love, positivity, compassion and humility look like. Even at the worst of times. He forever remains my inspiration.
