On the 24th of October, I’ll be running 80 kilometres in the Bondi to Manly Ultra Marathon.
It’s a long way to run for someone who isn’t here to see it. But that date isn’t just another day on the calendar — it was my Dad’s birthday.
Dad was a builder. He spent his life building.
Now, I want to help build hope, build better treatments, build a future — and ultimately, help build cures for cancer.

Dad fought brain cancer for five years with unbelievable strength before we lost him.
There was one thing he could never build himself.
A cure.
So, on his birthday, I’ll run for him.
Every kilometre will have a purpose — to honour my Dad, to remember the fight he fought, and to help build a future where other families don’t have to go through what ours did.

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse was such an important part of Dad’s journey and our family’s journey. The care, compassion and support they gave Dad, and the way they supported us as a family through some incredibly difficult moments, is something we will always be grateful for.
That is why I’m raising money for Chris O’Brien Lifehouse — to give back to a place that gave so much to our family and to support the ongoing fight against cancer.

I’m also running for my cousin Brian, who is fighting brain cancer, and for members of my family who are also fighting other forms of cancer.
Cancer has touched our family in more ways than we ever imagined.

So, this run is for Dad, for Brian, for my family — and for every family facing cancer.

Ryan....it was so lovely to meet you for the first time in Ballycotton, Ireland some time ago with your lovely mum and yer close relatives. We talked about your funny energetic dad. We might have not known his very very well but the times we spendt a sunny weekend a crew of us travelling in Cork and Kerry heading for Dingle we had such fun. He was so funny, was friends with everyone he met, impressed them all, we laughed every minute of the day. He had the Irish blarney and the cheeky grin and the devilment in the eyes.
