Beulah’s nursing career began at her parents' suggestion, but it soon became her passion. “At first, I didn’t enjoy it,” Beulah recalls. “But once I started doing clinicals at the hospital in my second year, everything changed. I found that I loved working with patients—talking with them, lifting their spirits, and giving them hope.”
Even after completing a master’s degree in administration, Beulah knew her heart was with patient care. “I never wanted to step away from patients,” she explains. “Nobody chooses to come to a hospital—it’s often the last place they want to be. I realised how important it was to make their experience a little more manageable.”
As a specialist lung cancer nurse, Beulah supports patients through all aspects of care—from arranging scans to managing side effects. For many patients, especially those without family support, Beulah becomes a lifeline. “We help them through the overwhelming process—chasing up results, organising appointments, and providing advice. When patients call us saying, ‘I’m feeling nauseated,’ we give then advice or arrange for them to come in if needed.”
For patients facing uncertainty, Beulah's consistent support can be a crucial source of reassurance and comfort.. “Some of them feel lost—they don’t know how to navigate the system or what steps to take next,” she explains. “We call them regularly to check in, making sure they know they’re not alone.”
Beulah’s support extends beyond patients to their families. “Sometimes family members call us saying their loved one seems fine during visits, but they’re struggling at home,” Beulah says. “We’ll adjust our conversations to gently ask how things are going—‘Are you eating okay? Are you managing at home?’—to uncover what’s really going on.”
Beulah emphasises that the goal of her work is not just about treatment, but about improving quality of life. “We want to make the time patients spend in treatment as enjoyable and meaningful as possible—for them and their families.”
