Beat Cancer! Beat Glioblastoma!
Tuesday 9th JunIn memory of Professor Richard Scolyer, and in memory of two of my high school classmates whom I lost to glioblastoma, I will be dedicating my next race, Ironman Tallinn, to raising funds for cancer research.
I had the privilege of meeting Richard a few times through the Pulse Performance morning squad sessions. He was a remarkable human being—kind, humble, courageous, and deeply committed to making a difference. As a scientist, he devoted his life to advancing cancer research, even while facing glioblastoma himself with extraordinary strength and determination.
Like many families and communities around the world, I have witnessed the devastating impact of cancer firsthand. Losing two classmates to glioblastoma and now saying goodbye to Richard is a painful reminder that this disease continues to take far too much from far too many people.
Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and deadly form of brain cancer. Despite advances in medicine, treatment options remain limited, and survival rates have changed little over recent decades. More research, more innovation, and more support are urgently needed to give patients and families hope.
As I prepare to take on Ironman Tallinn, every kilometre I swim, ride, and run will be dedicated to those we have lost and those who continue to fight. This challenge is insignificant compared to the battles faced by cancer patients every day, but it is my way of contributing to a cause that matters deeply.
My goal is simple: Beat Cancer! Beat Glioblastoma!
I invite you to join me by supporting cancer research through a donation of any size. Together, we can help fund the breakthroughs that will lead to better treatments, longer survival, and ultimately a cure.
For Richard.
For my classmates.
For every family affected by cancer.
Thank you for your support.
