Since opening in 2013, we have made remarkable progress in improving outcomes for people with cancer. We are living proof of the truth that Professor Chris O’Brien AO knew: that patients treated in a comprehensive cancer centre have a better chance of beating the disease.
This is borne out in the Reporting for Better Cancer Outcomes (RBCO) report from Cancer Institute NSW. The report shows a significant increase in survival by patients treated at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, in some cases up to five times.
Dedicated support for rural and regional clinics
A generous philanthropic gift provided the funding for a coordinator to our new head and neck rural clinics.
Surfing to ease patient hardship at Lifehouse
After being treated at Lifehouse, Jenna-Lee and partner Aron used surfing to rally their community and ease patient hardship.
Funding specialist nurses
It was a generous individual gift that funded the role of specialist pain nurse, Leona.
Transforming supportive care
Her mother’s cancer experience inspired Anna to donate her savings to help develop the supportive care service at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
