Julie and Alphues have travelled life's road together since 1976. Despite a challenging decade of numerous cancer diagnoses, their story is one of resilience, love, and hope.

Navigating life with stomas

Veronica, a mum of two and grandmother of three, was unexpectedly diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2020. After multiple scans and rounds of chemotherapy, she was scheduled for an 11-hour Total Pelvic Exenteration, a surgery that removes all organs from the pelvic area. She woke up with two stomas, a urostomy and colostomy, to pass bodily waste.

Linda's visit to Darling Harbour

Back in February, Linda was one of the very first patients to step into our brand-new Darling Harbour treatment room. This room is home to our newly acquired, state-of-the-art Varian edge Linear Accelerator (LINAC), purchased thanks to the incredible support of our donor community on Giving Day.

The healing power of exercise

Research shows that exercise can make a significant difference to a person’s health and well-being during and after cancer treatment. Movement can improve side effects such as fatigue, help patients build bone density and strength, and prevent cancer from coming back.

Johnathan's Story

Johnathan Hewis has run many marathons, triathlons and ultra-marathons, raising money for causes close to his heart. On December 8, 2023, he will take on the 167.5km long Ultra Trail Kosci Miler for Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. The Ultra Trail Kosci Miler traverses the highest peak in Australia, with more than 5000 metres of elevation across the course

Ngangkari

Earlier this year, in March, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse partnered with the Sydney Local Health District and Cancer Institute NSW to host a Ngangkari Cultural Immersion event.

Katrina's Story
